Brooke’s story
University of Wollongong – graduated in 2001
As a HR business partner, it’s my job to enable the organisation to achieve its business goals through culture, capability, design/structure, systems, and processes. I have to understand the organisation – what’s working, what isn’t, and how people are feeling. I need to ensure our processes and practices help P&G achieve its business goals. If things aren’t working, I work alongside the business leader to implement positive change. Our success depends on how well we attract, retain and develop people, and on how we optimise organisation design and work processes to unleash their full potential. If variety is what you’re after, look no further than P&G. While you build your career, you can work towards the HR area that most interests you. Whether you like the ‘big picture’ and designing new ways of getting things done or you prefer to lead, inspire and help people realise their full potential, a career with P&G is what you’ve been searching for.
My greatest achievement has to be my time as a HR Manager for a manufacturing plant in Sydney. We’d recently acquired Wella and the plant. There was no P&G culture, capability, systems or processes in place; it was falling well short of its goals. I look back and think ‘wow’ about how HR was a key driver in improving business results; results that included a fourfold increase in quality measure, and a case fill rate flourishing from 60% to 98%. When I left the role the plant was benchmarked as a best-in-class facility in P&G Asia. It’s a great example of HR leading change to drive great business results. Our people and our values are our competitive advantage, and it’s my role to champion these two things in my business unit. HR at P&G is strategic – we are business managers, change agents and thought leaders. This is where we excel. Elsewhere HR is all about being a service provider or playing a compliance role.
